# How It Works

### Web2 and Web3 roles

.com domains continue to exist in the Web2 world:

* Registered via ICANN-compatible registries
* Resolved via DNS
* Used for websites, email, and hosting

The Web3 layer adds:

* On-chain ownership (wallet-based)
* Transferability
* Programmable identity
* Future marketplace liquidity

Web2 remains the legal root.

The blockchain upgrades ownership and utility it does not replace domain law or DNS.

***

### Registration model

AllDomains registers .com domains on your behalf through standard Web2 registries.

Once registered, a corresponding on-chain record is created on Solana that represents:

* Ownership
* Renewal state
* Metadata pointers

This creates a single hybrid domain that works across both worlds.

***

### Ownership model

* AllDomains is the legal Web2 registrant
* You control the domain on-chain via your wallet
* Ownership transfers happen on-chain
* Legal enforcement remains Web2-based

This design ensures compatibility with existing internet rules while enabling Web3 utility.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.alldomains.id/protocol/hybrid-domain-names-.com-on-solana/how-it-works.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
